Campbell River Tyee Club Says Thanks to Canadian Peacekeepers

On Friday, August 24, Canadian peacekeepers from all over Vancouver Island will be converging in Campbell River for a one of a kind experience. In a way of saying thanks for their contributions to our county, the Tyee Club of Campbell River is hosting several current and retired military and search and rescue personnel for a day of fishing in the world famous Tyee Pools. Event organizer and school teacher, Mark Lagos, envisioned this event many months ago after meeting a military veteran who was presenting in a another classroom.  “I wanted to make sure he knew how much we appreciated his continual sacrifices,” says Lagos. “He had been injured while performing peacekeeping duties in Afghanistan and it made me think that this guy, and others like him, are really deserving of our thanks.”  Lagos then got in touch with the “Soldiering On” program, which aids in rehabilitation of our physically and mentally wounded vets, who felt it was a wonderful and unique opportunity for its veterans. Several members of the Tyee Club have volunteered to row, and everyone will be enjoying a potluck dinner afterwards.  “We want to give a huge thanks to our local businesses and club membership who have helped out with this. The community support , including donations of accommodations and food, has been phenominal,” Lagos said.
