Refresh and Inspire: Waterfront task force kicks off community meetings for 3.5-acre site

Community ideas about the future of the 3.5 acre site will take centre stage when the City’s Waterfront Task Force holds an open house on Monday, June 26 at the Campbell River Community Centre.

Building on the Refresh Downtown initiative, the Refresh and Inspire open house event will provide an opportunity for individuals, groups and organizations to make four-minute pitches highlighting ideas, concepts and proposals on ways the 3.5-acre waterfront lot could benefit our community and enhance the downtown.

“The task force has made it very clear that they want to focus on tangible outcomes to advance waterfront development, and we are looking forward to hearing ideas from community members that will refresh and inspire,” says City manager Deborah Sargent. “This will be the first of a number of opportunities for community members to share their vision for this waterfront site.”

The Refresh and Inspire event will run from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Community Centre Lounge (401 11th Ave.). Each individual, group or organization will have four minutes to present to the Waterfront Task Force. A stage and necessary equipment will be available. Everyone is welcome to participate as audience and/or presenter in this friendly, open public environment. Stay tuned for more information on process and registration.

The task force will review and analyze the ideas, taking into account land development, economic development, social and cultural considerations to identify principles that will be the foundation of future development for the site. The task force will also consider infrastructure and servicing options, related City policies such as Refresh Downtown and previous community feedback and suggestions for this site.

The task force will report back at the next community event, scheduled for July 25.
